Broke them in with a thin sock. I also own a pair of Frye Carson Shorties which I love, too. The shafts on the Billy Shorts is a stiffer leather and with the deep "V" cut, the shafts work well not only with bootcut jeans, but with regular and slightly bootcut jeans over the boots. The Frye Carson Shorties have a more supple, less stiff leather and no deep V, so the shaft gaps more when walking--I need to wear a full bootcut pant over them and they gap a little when wearing them with bare legs. They are very stiff in the beginning and you really have to wiggle and squirm to get your feet into them (and out of them) but they stretch and it's definitely worth it. They are very comfortable. I left them on for a few hours around my house the first time to break them in. As I was taking them off, I flexed and moved my foot around when it was halfway out and that made it much easier to put them on a second time. Sounds like a lot of work for a pricey pair of boots, but it's worth it. I'm typically not into cowboy boots, but these are so cute. I love the destrssed look and they are extremely comfy. I couldn't decide between the "Carson" boot or this one. I picked this one for the more cowbgirl look. They can be dressed up or down. They look very cute with skinny jeans or cords. Boots run a half size small. I wear a 7 1/2 and ordered an 8, worked out great!
