Here are answers to common fit questions. If you still have questions about your boots, please contact our customer service team at 1-888-282-6060.
I have athletic calves and therefore have a hard time fitting into knee-high boots. Can you recommend a style that will fit? Look for boots with laces, buckles or stretchy uppers. When you shop for boots at Nordstrom.com, keep in mind that we list the approximate calf circumference measurement for all knee-high boots and we note whether a boot will stretch or adjust to fit a wider calf. Also, many boots have elastic goring that stretches an extra inch around the calf. Love a pair of boots, but they just don't fit? Your local shoemaker can insert a larger gore panel that allows for a wider calf.
Still can't find a boot that slips on easily? Try placing a plastic bag over your sock, pull the boot on, then tear away the bag.
How do I determine my calf circumference? Wrap a cloth tape measure around the fullest part of your calf. This is the measurement we list on the product page for all knee-high boots.
Do the letters 'D', 'W', 'EE' or 'WW' next to the shoe size refer to calf width? No, they reference the width of your foot, not the circumference of your calf. That measurement is listed in inches and varies by size—the larger the calf size, the larger the circumference.
I know what size I usually wear, but there's a note on the product page that says I should order a different size. Why? Shoe sizes vary by style, running long, short, wide or narrow. Based on our knowledge of how boots fit, we may recommend ordering a larger or smaller size (i.e., 'runs narrow; order ½ size up'). Footwear manufacturers also use their own terms to indicate shoe widths, so we list our size equivalents in the fit tips (i.e., 'width equivalents: SS (Super Slim)=4A, S (Slim)=3A, N (Narrow)=2A, M (Medium)=B, W (Wide)=C, WW (Extra Wide)=D.) For the best fit, always refer to the fit tips, and if you have any questions, please contact us.
The heels of my new boots slip on one or both sides. How can I fix that? If the length and width feel correct, the problem may simply be that the boots are new. Flex the soles at the balls of the foot and massage the back of the heel to mold the shape for a better fit. If only one boot feels loose, that foot may be slightly wider than the other. Putting a thin insole in the loose boot should solve the problem. You can find insoles at your local Nordstrom store, shoe repair shop or Foot Petals Sole Solutionz.
My orthotics won't fit into my new boots. What can I do? Have a Nordstrom salesperson remeasure your feet while you stand on the orthotics. For a more comfortable fit, you may need to order up a size or width.
I usually find that one of my boots fits and the other one is too loose (or too tight), why is this? Most people have one foot that is shorter or narrower than the other. Always fit the larger foot and pad the smaller foot with a thin insole when necessary. You can find these at your local Nordstrom store, shoe repair shop or try Foot Petals Sole Solutionz at Nordstrom.com.
