STATE & LOCAL SALES TAXES
Taxes that appear in your online order confirmation are estimated. Because orders may be fulfilled from multiple locations across the U.S., the actual taxes charged to your credit card will be calculated based on the applicable state and local sales taxes when your order is shipped.
The terms contained herein are subject to change as the taxation of online transactions is continually evolving. Nordstrom strives to comply with state and local tax laws as they exist currently and continues to monitor and update its taxation policies as those laws change.
States Where Nordstrom Collects Sales Taxes
Orders shipped to AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, RI, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA or WA will have all applicable local and state sales taxes added to your total order, and to your shipping charges where appropriate.
States Where Nordstrom Does Not Collect Sales Taxes
Nordstrom does not collect sales or use taxes in all states. For states imposing sales or use taxes, your purchase may be subject to use tax unless it is specifically exempt from taxation. Your purchase is not exempt merely because it is made over the Internet or by other remote means. Many states require purchasers to file a sales/use tax return at the end of the year reporting all of the taxable purchases that were not taxed and to pay tax on those purchases.
You may have a tax obligation in states where Nordstrom does not collect sales tax. Details of how to report these taxes may be found at the websites of your respective taxing authorities.
Oklahoma, South Carolina & Vermont Sales Tax
For those customers purchasing from Nordstrom and shipping to Oklahoma, South Carolina or Vermont:
Oklahoma: Oklahoma requires the tax not collected by Nordstrom on taxable purchases shipped to Oklahoma be reported by the purchaser and paid on the Oklahoma individual income tax return [Form 511] or by filing a consumer use tax return [Form 21-1]. The referenced forms and corresponding instructions are available on the Oklahoma Tax Commission website at www.tax.ok.gov.
South Carolina: You may owe South Carolina use tax on taxable purchases shipped to South Carolina based on the total sales price of the purchase. You may visit www.sctax.org to pay the use tax or you may report and pay the tax on your South Carolina Income Tax Form.
Vermont: Vermont requires the tax not collected by Nordstrom on taxable purchases shipped to Vermont be reported by the purchaser and paid on either the Vermont individual income tax form [IN-111, Line 27], or the Vermont use tax form [SU-452]. The use tax forms and instructions are available on the Vermont Department of Taxes website at www.state.vt.us/tax/usetax.shtml.
