Happy Feet This Holiday Season
One million pairs of shoes is a lot of shoes. That large number takes on an even more significant meaning when you think about those shoes, all million pairs of them, being on the very “happy” feet of kids in need around the U.S.
In early 2012, Shoes That Fit, a national non-profit that delivers new shoes to kids who might not otherwise have access to them, handed out their millionth pair. “That milestone would not have been possible without the support that Nordstrom and New Balance provided through the Nordstrom Holiday Giving Tree program,” said Roni Lomeli, executive director of Shoes That Fit. “Since the program started two years ago, we’ve given out more than 23,000 pairs, which certainly helped us more quickly achieve the one million mark. We're so proud of this effort - that is a lot of shoes and a lot of very happy kids.”
Another Season of Giving
The Nordstrom Holiday Giving Tree is back again for the 2012 holiday season. Beginning November 23 through December 24, 2012, every Nordstrom Full-line store will display holiday trees with tags that customers can purchase for $20. Each of the more than 8,100 tags represents a deserving child in that community.
We are thankful that Nordstrom believes as we do that every child deserves shoes that fit.

After the tag is purchased, Shoes That Fit will partner with local schools to identify those children who are most in need of the new footwear. New Balance will then donate a pair of shoes ($55 retail value) that will be given to the student before they depart their schools for holiday breaks. Nordstrom will cover the costs of unsold tags and shipping shoes to schools.
Operated by a network of grassroots volunteers since 1992, Shoes That Fit provides new shoes to children in need so that they can attend school in comfort and with dignity, and be better prepared to learn and play.
"It's amazing how a new pair of shoes can have such a significant impact on someone," Michele Love, Nordstrom Rack Director of Stores and Shoes That Fit board member. "By giving them shoes that are comfortable and safe, and that they're proud to wear, we're also giving them the ability to really focus on just being a kid."
A Beloved Tradition
Since 2001, the Nordstrom Giving Tree has been a beloved holiday tradition in Nordstrom stores that has benefited thousands of less fortunate children in our local communities.
"Year after year our customers and our employees tell us how much they enjoy the opportunity to do something to give back, especially during the holiday season when many of us are counting our blessings," said Claudia Gonzalez, Nordstrom's Corporate Contributions Director. "The Giving Tree is a tradition that we look forward to each year and we've been so fortunate to have a great partnership with Shoes That Fit and New Balance over the past few years that has allowed us to expand our reach even more."
