GO GRAPHIC FOR FALL WITH BLACK AND WHITE BASICS SELECTED BY JEFFREY KALINSKY, OUR IN-HOUSE AUTHORITY ON ALL THINGS DESIGNER.

I love how the stiletto feminizes these Saint Laurent biker booties while still keeping them cool and edgy.

Worn together, this Erdem outfit looks like a really chic dress, but it's actually two great pieces that you can mix into your wardrobe.

This Valentino clutch is an easy way to introduce white into your wardrobe. You could wear it with charcoal, black, red and more.

This Lanvin oxford is something that both a younger girl and a 60-year-old woman could wear. It's ageless.

The burst of white in this Valentino dress is another cool way to wear white in winter, especially when it's toned down with black.

This Saint Laurent handbag is a timeless classic—but by studding the whole thing, it becomes very rock and roll.

Our designer guru talks fashion, celebrities and more.

What were your favorite shows for fall 2013? Junya Watanabe, Céline and Givenchy. The collection and show at Givenchy were just amazing. It was in this huge setting, with the models walking in a big circle and Antony Hegarty [of Antony and the Johnsons] singing live.

Who are some of your mentors in the industry? When I was first starting out, I worked for Donna Karan and learned so much about the relationship between a woman's clothing and accessories. She was so passionate about providing clothing for a woman by a woman. I also had a close relationship with Stuart Weitzman in the '90s. He taught me to really believe in myself.

When's the last time you were starstruck? I met Emma Stone recently. I think she's fabulous, and I didn't know what to say. That same night, I was seated for dinner next to Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones. Her character is really masculine and tough, but in person, she's beautiful and feminine and so opposite the character she plays. I fell in love with her.

I always love velvet. I could see a woman buying this Alexander McQueen dress now and still wearing it in five years.
