It's difficult to justify spending more than $200 for a button-down, especially since they go on sale all of the time. I remember walking into Nordstrom a little over a month ago and spotting this one, which immediately caught my eye, but I didn't even both trying it on because I knew what the price was.
This is the Sonora, and for those of you unfamiliar, this is THE shirt that Diesel showcases every year. There are always several versions of the Sonora, and this is just one, but it is Diesel's pride and joy, which is especially evident with this version in the details. Because I knew what this shirt was, I understood why it was priced where it was too. Still, I imagined that it would "feel" the same as the rest.
Eventually, temptation gave way, and I decided to try this one on a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't have been more mistaken. It was immediately evident to me why the Sonora is so highly regarded. The fit was PERFECT #broad shoulders / narrow waist; hard to fit well#, but even more than that, the shirt just "feels" better than others. It has a premium feel and is supremely comfortable. Comparing it to other shirts in my inventory, such as Jack Spade, Hugo Boss, other Diesels, JACHS, etc., this isn't meant to take anything away from those brands because they're nice too, but it's just night and day. There's something about the Sonora, not just in terms of looks but also feel, that puts it over the top.
In sum, if you don't want to spend $200+ for an amazingly well-built, comfortable, stylish shirt, do NOT try this one on. As soon as you do, you'll see why you have to purchase it. It's phenomenal in every respect.
You could gamble and wait for it to go on sale, but because it's the Sonora, and because the size for me is usually on the limited side in the first place, I feared it would be long gone by the time that happened. I do not regret this decision at all.
For reference: I'm 5'7, 37" chest, 29" waist. Small was perfect in all respects.
