Nordstrom Bank Online Privacy and Information Security
Protecting the privacy and security of customer information is a priority for Nordstrom Bank. We are committed to meeting your expectation that your online transactions with us will be protected with the same level of security as all of the other ways we interact with you.
Use of "Cookies" and Other Similar Technology
In order to provide you with better, more secure service, we may use "cookies," "Flash objects" (also known as "Local Shared Objects" or "Flash cookies"), or other similar technology on our site in order to facilitate your online banking transactions.
Cookies and Flash objects are small text files that a website's server places directly on the computer you are using. Nordstrom Bank, or our service provider, may use cookies and Flash objects to authenticate your identity when providing online banking services to you. Flash objects help us recognize you and your computer when you visit our online banking site. We do not use cookies or Flash objects for any marketing or online behavioral targeting purposes.
If you choose, you can set your browser to inform you when cookies are sent. You may choose not to accept cookies, or choose to delete cookies. Your decision not to accept cookies could limit access to some of the services that are available on our site. Deleting cookies does not delete Flash objects. Learn how to manage privacy and storage settings for Flash objects. If you choose to delete or disable Flash objects, you may not be able to access and use all or part of the services offered on our site.
Website Security
Nordstrom Bank takes the safeguarding of your personal information seriously. To guard your information, our website uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt the personal information you provide online such as your user name, password, name, address, and credit information. Please note that e-mail and text messaging communication is not encrypted and is not considered a secure means of transmitting credit card or other personal information.
To be sure your connection is secure, look at the lower left-hand corner of your browser window. If you see an unbroken key or a closed lock (this is determined by your browser), the SSL is active and your information is secure. You can also double-check by looking at the URL line of your browser. When accessing a secure server, the first characters of the site address will change from 'http' to 'https' (the 's' stands for 'secure').
Some versions of browsers and some firewalls don't permit communication even though the server is secure. If for some reason you are unable to connect to our secure server, or if you prefer to apply or transact by phone, please contact us toll-free at 1.866.491.7860.
THE ABOVE STATEMENT ONLY APPLIES TO INFORMATION TRANSMITTED TO US USING THIS WEBSITE.
Other Protections
Your online security is of utmost importance to us. Below, we outline a few additional ways we safeguard your online banking experience.
- Secure User Name and Password – You select your preferred user name and password, and these items must be entered every time you sign in to Nordstrom Bank's online banking site. As an enhanced security measure, you will be asked to change your password periodically.
- Automatic Time Out – When there is a period of inactivity, your session will be terminated to help protect against unauthorized access.
- Client-Driven Authentication Questions – In some cases, in order to access your account or perform certain transactions, you will be asked additional "challenge" questions to authenticate your identity.
PROTECTING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
It is important to educate yourself and take measures to help protect your personal information online. These measures include:
- Install and maintain the latest security updates and anti-virus software on your computer to help prevent malware and viruses.
- Use complex passwords (a minimum of 8 alpha/numeric cAsE sEnsitive characters).
- Do not share your password or other personally identifiable information with others.
- Sign out/log off website sessions so that your session is closed and cannot be accessed by another user on the same computer, especially when using a public computer or terminal.
- Educate yourself about online scams and threats.
Identity theft is a serious crime. It occurs when someone uses your personal information, such as your name, Social Security number, or credit card number, without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. Recently, identity thieves have been sending phony e-mail and text messages in an attempt to lure customers into divulging personal or financial information (a practice known as "phishing"). Many of these e-mail or text messages feature familiar language and company logos, and some may even go as far as showing exact copies of company website pages. The messages and websites attempt to trick people into providing personal information such as user name, log-on ID, password, credit card number, account information, Social Security number, and other sensitive information.
NORDSTROM BANK DOES NOT REQUEST PERSONAL INFORMATION FROM CUSTOMERS VIA E-MAIL OR TEXT MESSAGE. PLEASE NOTE THAT E-MAIL AND TEXT MESSAGING COMMUNICATION IS NOT ENCRYPTED AND IS NOT CONSIDERED A SECURE MEANS OF TRANSMITTING CREDIT CARD OR OTHER PERSONAL INFORMATION.
If you have received or entered personal information in response to a suspicious e-mail, text message, pop-up, or suspicious website claiming to be affiliated with Nordstrom Bank, please contact us immediately at 1.800.964.1800.
