Giving has a way of making people feel good. Whether it's a gift to the one you love or sharing your time with someone who might need a helping hand, it's clear that even the simplest of gifts can make a world of difference.
That's the idea behind the new Nordstrom Gift Card giving program. Nordstrom is now donating 1% of every Gift Card sale to local nonprofit organizations that are making a tremendous difference in the communities they serve.
A New Way to Give
"Giving back to the communities that give so much to us has always been an important part of our culture here at Nordstrom, and each year we support hundreds of worthy organizations across the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada," said Terri Baldwin, National Contributions Director for Nordstrom. "But we wanted to do more. And we think our new Nordstrom Gift Card giving program is a great way to strengthen our commitment and increase how and where we are able to give."
Nordstrom will use funds from Gift Card sales to support two giving programs: Nordstrom-directed corporate contributions and a newly launched Employee Charitable Match program.
"This is a way for us to further our support of the organizations that mean the most to us as a company and those that also matter individually to our employees," said Baldwin.
Each year, thousands of organizations request charitable support from Nordstrom and hundreds are selected to receive cash grants. Though Nordstrom supports a variety of programs and organizations, the company primarily focuses its giving on programs and organizations that take care of kids and empower youth.
Funds from the Gift Card program will also help support the company's new Employee Charitable Match program. Launching in summer 2015, the program will provide employees with $5,000 annually to match their personal donations to qualified nonprofit organizations.
"Tying our company's commitment to giving back to our Gift Cards just seems like the right fit and it helps us further demonstrate to our customers, our employees and those who purchase or receive a Gift Card that we are a company that really cares," said Baldwin.
