Community Giving

Our Focus on Supporting Our Communities

Community Giving

We believe one of our most important responsibilities is supporting the communities Nordstrom serves. Our support may take the form of a cash contribution, partnering with a local organization, or volunteering our time. We focus on partnering with organizations who champion arts and culture, education, health, community development and the environment, with diversity also playing a key role.

Contributions Guidelines

Are you eligible?

To be eligible for us to consider your organization for future contributions, your organization must:

  • Qualify for nonprofit status under the Internal Revenue Service code
  • Benefit a local community served by Nordstrom
  • Demonstrate sound and responsible financial policies and management
  • Demonstrate the requested funds will support a project that provides a service not readily available elsewhere

To ensure that community organizations receive the maximum benefit from our support, we prefer to give cash contributions. We do not donate merchandise, gift cards, samples, shopping bags or other supplies. As a rule, we do not make contributions that support:

  • Unrestricted operating funds of organizations already funded through United Way
  • Individual scholarships
  • Funds for individuals
  • Projects of a political nature
  • Individual primary or secondary schools
  • Pageants or talent competitions
  • Religious organizations for sectarian purposes
  • Special occasion, goodwill or program advertising
  • Table purchases for fundraising events
  • Loans or investments
  • Auctions, raffles or opportunity drawings
  • Team sponsorships or fundraising competitions
  • Production of films, videotapes, recordings, publications or displays
  • Merchandise promotions
  • Conferences or conventions
  • Event underwriting

Application Procedures

Tell us about your organization

An organization or program that believes that they meet our eligibility requirements can submit a written application that includes:

  • A concise description of the organization, including purpose and objectives
  • Dollar amount of request
  • Proof of nonprofit status under the Internal Revenue Service code
  • List of officers and directors
  • History of organization
  • Recent annual report

Most of the contributions we make are determined annually by Nordstrom's regional office. All applications must be received by October 1 for the following year. In January, we notify all organizations of the status of their requests.
