Frye 'Cameron' Shoulder Bag
Frye 'Cameron' Shoulder Bag
This is a gorgeous handbag. Fun and functional. Highly recommend!
This bag is described as "vintage-inspired." I have a similar bag from the 1970s or 1980s and understand what people mean when they say very little will fit inside. I use my vintage bag as an awesome (and very interesting) computer bag with my macbook air. Just an idea how this bag might work for others.
Slightly awkward proportions
I like the style of the bag very much, but the size is a bit awkward. If you just want to carry a wallet and some loose stuff, then it's fine, but if you want to stick a book and water and a long wallet in there, it's stuffed. Maybe they need to just make it a smaller bag by trimming a couple inches off the bottom. It wants to be big but you can't actually get much in it, but it has a big enough footprint that you want to try to put a lot in, so lands in an awkward middle ground.
I like that I can carry something notebook sized in it but it is not a very deep bag at all so what's the point of being able to carry something notebook sized but not anything else? It has so much of a school satchel style that you would think you'd be able to do that. It's so shallow that I can barely get a hardcover book and aluminum water bottle in it. That's the bare mininum for me in a bag of this size! If I want to carry my long wallet too, then the whole thing bulges and you have to put everything in a certain way or it won't all fit back inside. They should just have a deeper side pleat/fold. I do like that it's not a bag that is wider at the bottom than top though.
I also think the proportions of the flap are what makes it look huge. If the flap was longer by an inch or two, it would make the bag look less huge and vertical (or "mailman" as another reviewer put it). The magnets alongside the lock mechanism also make it hard to open the bag since they are strong. I also have the first version of the satchel and the magnets on that are weaker and make it less difficult to open.
That said, the quality of the leather and hardware are really stellar and make up for a lot of these flaws. The shape of the bag is kinda preppy but the dye finish is more rough and boho. I think they were going for the look of a wellworn bag, and I think it succeeds without looking dirty or unfinished. I'm actually happy with the bag, but I'm a bit of a picky visual person, so I thought it was worth mentioning those details!
I Could Deliver Mail With This Purse
My bad, I didn't realize exactly how large this purse would be. It is huge and I like big purses. But, in my opinion, the exterior size and shape, were not flattering to the product, it looks big and bulky.
The outside clasp, also held by a magnet on each side of the flap, was a real pain to open. The clasp had to be forcibly pulled through the opening, and being that it was metal against metal, it would never change. For that reason alone, I would return this purse.
Check the measurements carefully to see if it fits your body and life style. Back it goes :-(
