Laura Mercier 'Arabesque Collection' Baked Eye Color Palette ($108 Value)
Beautiful spring colors
Love this eye color palette not to over the top shiny looks very refreshing on my olive tone complexion , must have for this spring.
Nice product - but watch out if you have allergies
I was in LOVE with this little baked eye palette collection. I mean, the colors are so pretty, they're nicely pigmented, and it's by Laura Mercier so you know it's good stuff.
However, I noticed shortly after applying all the colors on Day 1 that my lids were starting to get itchy. From past experience, this only happens when there is a substance called 'carmine' listed as an ingredient, and this is a common ingredient in any red/purple and I guess pink (?) colored makeup to give it its color. I thought, "Nah, I'm probably just imagining it." (I can be ridiculously stubborn sometimes, lol. :)
I used all the colors on my eye lids for 7 days straight and, I'll admit, there were 2 nights when I didn't wash off my eye make up before falling asleep. The morning after these particular nights, my eyelids were puffy and itchy and I said, "Okay, there HAS to be carmine in there somewhere." So I took out the box and sure enough, way at the end of one of the colors (I think it was for the pink one (?)) was the culprit! :P
So... if you have no allergy issues, then this is a GREAT set: very pretty colors, wearable day OR night, and you can wear them wet or dry, mix the colors or just wear a single color - whatever suits your fancy. BUT if you have a carmine allergy, as I do, then steer clear of this palette. (Needless to say, i sadly took this one back. And instead bought a box of Benadryl for my poor itchy, hives on my eyelids.):
A Glittery Mess
While the colors in this baked palette are gorgeous and versatile (as they're so neutral), the finish of the shadows was the deal-killer for me: they sparkled so beautifully when I swatched them on my hand ... sadly, they sparkled all over my FACE as well once applied on my eyes. The glitter fallout was terrible, and I couldn't return it fast enough (and I'm not one to return things without a LOT of consideration).
When I did return the palette, the sales associate tried to tell me the many different ways I could keep the shadow from flaking (eye primer, this product, that product). I already use a shadow primer, which works wonders for me, but further than that, I shouldn't have to work much harder to make a shadow work.
So be warned: gorgeous colors will tempt you, as they did me, but unless you want to look like you fought a losing battle with the Glitter Fairy, steer clear from this palette.
Wonderful, perfect colors. Use with wet brushes and blend. So pretty!
