Maxi-Cosi® 'Mico' Infant Car Seat
Good, but not great.
I've been using the Maxi Cosi Mico in Grey for four months and have waited to write my review until now. I had high, high hopes for this car seat. While it's good, there is still much to be desired. The first being, if you purchase this seat, the directions ARE HIDDEN UNDER THE COVER. As a first time parents, after we opened the box, we were aghast to find no directions? Nope, you have to remove the seat cover to find the gem. Here are my notes:
-Installation: I wish Maxi Cosi would come out with an installation video for You Tube (much like Britax). While it seems straight forward, it would have been nice to see a demo. We ended up having our car seat checked by the local safety police, to find out we did it wrong.
- Size: If you drive a small car (like my Honda Civic), you may want to steer clear of this. While it's design is clean and great to look at it, it's an awkward shape. We installed this in the center of my backseat. Otherwise, we would not be able to push the front seats back to where my husband (6ft tall) could drive my car comfortably. On the same note, while it's the lightest you can purchase, it is awkward shaped to carry on your arm. Esp after adding a 17+ lb baby.
-Getting the carrier in and out of the base is not a flawless task. The lock 'sticks' sometimes and the carrier does not always snap in the first time. Sometimes, you have to fiddle with the base release lever, to have it 'reset' to pop the carrier back in.
- Handle: there is no rubber grip on the top center of the handle to attach the fun, cute toys for my baby. It's sleek plastic, slips right off.
-The sun shade is not as sturdy, nor cover as well, as other major car seat brands.
All that aside, my baby does like this car seat. He sleeps comfortably in it, and it is easy to wash the cover and parts when needed (blowouts!). I do like the design and style of this car seat. There are no obnoxious patterns like the other major brands. The weight/height restriction is one of the smallest on the market(22lb limit). I didn't take this into consideration when initially purchased as my husband and I are average sized people. Now we have a big four month old baby and wishing I would have gotten a car seat with a higher limit. We'll have to move him up to a convertible before he can sit up on his own.
I purchased this car seat for my first grand son and was surprised with the quality. One thing I really liked is the material of the car seat because it is very comfortable for the baby. Also the car seat is light compared to others so its easy to carry for any new mom. Overall both my daughter and I are very pleased with the quality and safety features of the car seat.
After much research, my husband and I decided to purchase this car seat due to its excellent safety rating. Our son seems quite comfortable in the seat as well. He never complains about being in it and does not overheat, problems I have read can be common with other seats. Additionally, the car seat happens to fit into our Bugaboo stroller. We never intended to use it that way, but our son prefers the car seat to the Bugaboo bassinet as he has greater visibility and an increased sense of security with the 5 point harness.
