ML Monique Lhuillier Bridesmaids Ruched Strapless Cationic Chiffon Dress (Nordstrom Exclusive)
I love it!!!
I was looking for the perfect silver dress for my elopement to Charleston in July. This one fit the bill perfectly. The fit is awesome and very flattering even at my not so flattering parts. It's very comfortable and lightweight. The length hits right above the knee. I can't wait to wear it.
The reasons I have it a 4 instead of 5 is #1 - it's not quite a silvery as it appears in the picture, but it is a beautiful light gray. #2 - since I ordered it on-line instead of getting it in the store - I need to bring it to be steamed. It's very wrinkly. I'm hoping the wrinkles aren't permanent - some of them look like they could be an issue - otherwise it will have to go back.
Do not buy if you are curvy with a bum!
I am 5'10, 38D bust, ALWAYS a size 16 dress and I couldn't even get this dress over my butt. I was truly disappointed! I even ordered an 18 "just in case" and even the 18 was too too small. This dress is beautifully made, I bought it in 3 colors the burgundy color the wine/eggplant color and and the two tone irvory/black color all three were very elegant and I wanted sooooo badly for them to fit but my tush just wasn't going to have it. My bust fit fine in the 16, a little loose on the 18, so if you are a little more full on the bottom I would bypass on this dress :-(
It should be mentioned that the Nordstrom truefit suggested a 16 would be PERFECT for me or that I could even try the 14.... LOL back to the drawing board Truefit, you failed me.
I love it!
I'm perplexed by the mixed reviews of this dress. I got the eggplant and it's gorgeous. The colorful is deep and beautiful, and the quality of the dress is impeccable. I actually love the fabric and this is the only bridesmaid dress that I'd wear again - it looks like a beautiful, well-made dress and you'd never guess it's a "bridesmaid" line.
As for fit, I'm a 34DD with a small waist and I've got a bit of a curve on my hips. I usually wear a size 8 in dresses, 6 in pants. I needed this dress in size 10 to fit my bust (and I find there's plenty of structure - it holds up fantastically, which as a DD is not something I say often). The waist fits perfectly as well. The dress is just a tiny bit too big at the hips but I expected that because I'm so top-heavy. Nobody would really even notice, I think.
Maybe this is one of those dresses that varies a lot depending on the color because they use different fabric? That's the only reasoning I can think of to explain the ups and downs of the reviews. In any case, the eggplant is fabulous.
Tiny on top
After reading so many glowing reviews on this dress, I thought it was important to point out that the majority that rave about the fit describe themselves as "hourglass, curvy or pear."
As someone with a medium sized bust (34C) and especially narrow through the hips, this dress did not fit well. I ordered a size 4 and could barely squeeze my chest in the top of the dress. Meanwhile, the bottom was large and almost flared out in the hips. If you don't have hips, it does look A-line, as another reviewer pointed out. Given that ruching should be tight, it creates a very awkward silhouette that can only be fixed by some very serious altering.
On a separate note, I found the fabric to be very cheap and unappealing, but I suppose that is a matter of taste.
