Impossible foundation to use!
I've tried a fair share of foundations in my life. Everything from Estee Lauder and Laura Mercier, to Revlon and L'Oreal. My skin type is combination. My skin can be dry when it's basically natural, but certain foundations can aggravate the oiliness around certain areas of my face. I don't have acne problems and my skin can withstand very full coverage makeup without breaking out.
Unfortunately, this was my first Nars foundation purchase that just left me feeling so down. I've heard so many great stuff about the Sheer Glow, but because my face used to be very oily, I thought the Sheer Matte would be a better choice.
I was thoroughly disappointed because it just does not work for my skin! Here are the cons:
1. Does not blend well: the consistency of the foundation in my bottle was extremely thick. I did not know if that was normal or not. For the first few days, I had to force foundation out of the bottle neck because I had not purchased a pump. The thick consistency made it extremely hard to blend on my face using a brush or my hands.
2. Way too matte: when I did finally get the thick foundation onto my skin, the finish of the foundation was too powdery and cakey for my liking.
3. Does not last long: this foundation would start separating an hour into wearing it. It would start at my usual oil deposits around my t-zone, around my lip and jaw area. By the end of the day, my face would just look oily and I could not see any sign of the foundation. It would look like I just used powder foundation for light coverage.
4. Not a mixable foundation: I've really tried hard to make this foundation work. Most of the time, I like to mix two different foundations to see if I could come up with a consistency, finish, and staying power that I like. I've tried using a water based foundation to maybe thin the foundation to blend easier, but it wouldn't work. I tried to see if I can add some moisturizer, but the last time I did that, the foundation sort of peeled and wouldn't work.
I have tried really hard and experimented a lot with this foundation. So much that I won't be able to return this merchandise. As a makeup product that I paid a higher price for, I expected this foundation to be as least wearable. However, no matter what I did, this foundation was just not a good fit for me. I think despite hearing great reviews for the Sheer Glow, I would prefer not to touch any more of Nars foundation. I don't think their products are a great fit for my preference and my skin.

Finally my perfect foundation
I have tried every foundation they make since I started wearing makeup! I'm 54 now and still have oily skin that most foundations - even the popular mineral Matte makeup- look like an oil slick by midday. Loving the color FIJI - I am pale but this looks so natural and covers- doesn't make me look like a ghost or have a mask on..as most sales associates try to go a shade lighter due to the fact that when your oil hits it turns. Not this one! The associate at the NARS counter was quite helpful and I also bought the powder foundation in FIJI for weekends or when I don't want to put on liquid.

The Bottle broke ferociously .
After I left my MAC Matchmaster foundation in the hands of my cousin, I decided to finally switch foundation brands and try something different. I am of darker complexion, an 8.5 in MAC Matchmaster. I have super oily skin and the foundation works with my skin to create a dewy sort of glow. In this Nars foundations I found a great color compliment in Trinidad. This foundation has AMAZING buildable coverage, however it needs some sort of setting power as it will rub off ALL day. One day the lid decided to never close on the bottle again and it broke off from me attempting to tighten it. I guess it might be worth the repurchase as I now have a setting powder. It is a shame that it broke.

I bought this for my mom and it beautifully evens out her skin tone. It's light and doesn't look pasty--you know those ladies where it looks like you could scoop off their makeup? None of that here! It looks natural and even though it's a matte foundation it does add a certain luminosity (not shine, just a pretty glow). Looks beautiful :)
