NYDJ 'Sheri' Skinny Jeans
Rise too low
I always wonder why, when something works, a company finds the need to change it. I ordered these as a replacement for a pair I have that is wearing out. I was quite disappointed to find that the rise was nearly 3" lower on this pair than the original.
Bigger but shorter
I've bought many, many pairs of NYDJ jeans over the years and am familiar with the idea that it is necessary to buy a size smaller than your usual size when buying NYDJ. But I found with this particular style (Sheri NOT petite), I had to go down 2 sizes (thank goodness for Nordstrom's free returns!). So in most brands, where a 4 would fit, and an NYDJ 2 would fit, I had to get size 0.
Another big disappointment is that, although the inseam is stated to be 31" (a real let-down from the former 32"), one pair measured 30.5 inches, and the other, 30.25 inches. I'm 5'7", so this makes a big difference. Considering the price of these jeans, the very least NYDJ could do is make them the full 31 inches, and I really wish they would go back to the 32 inches they used to make. A person can always hem pants up, but off course you can't create fabric that isn't there.
The description on the Nordstrom page lists these as "high rise," but they aren't. I can't recall if the exact numbers were there, but I'm sure they can be found on the NYDJ site. I recommend checking them if the rise is an important factor for you.
Despite all these criticisms (which I'm giving just so that people are correctly informed), once I put on the right size, they looked absolutely fantastic, and felt very comfortable. After I washed them, I stretched them lengthwise as hard as I could and then ironed them dry, and I think I was able to get an extra half inch in length. If the length is fine for you, machine drying may be fine. I had no problems with dye coming off on anything, and the color is a very solid black, including all stitching.
These are my FIRST pair of NYDJ...(I "have" a LOT of jeans...none fit this well)! I love them...(I actually bought 2 pair...one in the mid-rise "Sheri" Skinny leg, in black and one in the Marilyn, high rise, straight leg, dark wash). BOTH fit great, but the "Sheri" skinny leg fits me better, the leg on the Marilyn is a very wide straight leg... BUT I have skinny legs, not much calf. I usually wear an 8 in most jeans...so going down a size in NYDJ is a must! The waist and "both" rises fit very well and the seat fits well too...good for a person like me with a small derriere! THANK YOU NYDJ...I'm a "convert" :-)
Although they were comfortable, I felt like they had an old lady fit. They way up to the waist and seem a bit baggy for skinny jeans. The 4 did fit my 5'9 /130 lb frame.
