Sperry Top-Sider® 'CVO' Sneaker
tried different sizes.
i first ordered this sneaker in size 6 as that's what i usually am. they were too tight and i could barely squeeze them on with thin ankle socks. because they were on sale when i ordered them, only a few sizes were available. when i saw the size 7 was available, i decided to try them only to find they were too large and loose. sooo i needed the 6.5 and i waited until they finally appeared!! and yes, the 6.5 was the best fit. as it turns out, the true fit thing told me i was a 6.5 for this shoe. i wear 6.5 for running sneakers, so i guess it made sense...not sure if the sperry brand was off. when i tried breaking them in, i got little blisters right on the bone of my big toe. when i walked and my foot bent, that was the rubbing area and it hurt after a while. hopefully the canvas will soften after a few more wears and the blisters won't happen again. because i love that there's actual arch support!! i do think these sneakers run a little narrow than normal though.
Ouch - too narrow!
Growing up sailing, I am a huge Sperry fan. I had high hopes for these sneakers, but they are going back. They look cute and are well-made, but they run very narrow in the toe box. I'm almost always a medium width with plenty of room. With these shoes, I felt a pinch as soon as I stood up.
Not a good shoe for wide feet.
I found the shoe to have a very narrow opening, I had to STRUGGLE to get my bare foot in. Once I had the shoe on, it suffocated! Tight all around. Perhaps a half-size up could've sold this problem.
These brought me back to the 1970's when everyone who was anyone wore Sperry Topsiders. Whether they be the leather boat shoes or canvas sneakers ( I even had a pair in bright green suede), a summer outfit was incomplete without a pair of Sperry Topsiders adorning one's feet.
Throughout the years my mom would wear nothing else. For years, through the onset of the new millennium, there was only one local shoe store where she could consistently order these shoes. Once a year we would go to the family owned store where she would try on and then buy a new pair.
The 'CVO' did not disappoint. Clean edges, minimalist styling, comfortable fit, classic design and great support they have it all!
