Sue Wong V-Neck Embroidery & Bead Overlay Gown
Classic and Unexpectedly Sexy Wedding Dress
Like many of the other reviewers, I bought this gown for my wedding. I had purchased this Sue Wong online so was incredibly surprised when I tried it on for the first time in my mediocre-lit apartment. The color (antique champagne) is warm but bridal at the same time. It especially looks stunning if you have a darker complexion than the model, who I think looks very monotone/one-note with her skin color that is not too far off from the antique champagne. You really need the tonal contrast for the wow factor when it comes to the illusion back.
The fit was amazing for my body. I ordered a size 2, which worked for my 32B chest, 24-25" waist, 34" hips. I have an athletic-slender build. It's a classic cut but so sexy, and I loved that the beading wasn't heavy at all. I have heard other brides complain about being tired of their dress' weight after 6+ hours of wear, so was happy that wasn't a concern with the Sue Wong.
The one difficulty with the dress is the beading. I'm 5'2" and wore 3" heels with the dress but still needed a good amount of the bottom taken off. The Nordstrom seamstress had to fold the mesh, redo the bottom beading and ribbon, and try to hide the edge with sequins by hand. My alterations came out to $150 because it required more attention to detail (I didn't need the dress altered anywhere else) but with the Nordstrom card's annual complimentary $100 in alterations, I only paid $50 out of pocket.
Overall, classic yet sexy silhouette and back, and comfortable to wear the entire day. You will need something like the Nordstrom Uplunge backless strapless bra.
Flattering but itchy
This column dress was beautiful. Very flattering from the waist down. I really liked the embroidery, and the sequins/beading did not look cheap as I had feared. I thought the beading should have been left off under the armpits as it was bothersome. I ordered both the platinum and champagne colors to compare as dresses for my outdoor wedding. The champagne color was really beautiful, but I didn't like the platinum for a wedding dress.
They were entirely too long for me at 5'0", but I could have hemmed them myself.
I wear a size 2, and this ran small in both the bust and the shoulders. If you're at all muscular or have wider shoulders, don't bother. I could get it on and zip it (both busty and muscular), but the mesh back was incredibly itchy and uncomfortable and squeezed my skin. It was not flattering from the back across the shoulders.
I've never actually found a dress where I didn't need to wear a bra (DDD cup), but I would have had enough support not to wear one in this dress since it's so tight in the bust and has some shaping/padding in the cups. I guess that's the one benefit of the dress running small in the bust... but the cleavage was pretty extreme. I returned the dress mainly due to the discomfort with the mesh. I want to be totally comfortable in my wedding dress.
small thru the bust
Another stunning dress by Sue Wong! It broke my heart to send it back, but it ran at least a size too small thru the bust. This dress is even more gorgeous in person and could be worn many times as the style is timeless.
I was shopping for a dress for a second wedding and this dress caught my eye. The event was being held at our home with about 50 guests, so I didn't want something too "bridesey." The champagne color was exactly what I was looking for, and the embroidery and beaded overlay was perfect. The sizing was small in the bust, so I went up a size and the fit was good. I would highly recommend this dress.
