Simplify, Simplify: Nudestix
It's a new year, and we're all craving a clear-out. The founders of minimalist, multigenerational makeup line NUDESTIX share their tips for doing more with less.

Sisters Taylor and Ally Frankel—along with their mother, Jenny, an accomplished chemical engineer—are the founders of NUDESTIX, a multitasking makeup line for people with packed schedules (and handbags). While Jenny has some serious cosmetic bona fides as a product developer and cofounder, her daughters are learning as they go, creating products that women of all ages can feel comfortable using. These are women who not only respect the hustle but also deeply understand it. They describe the brand's thick sticks as Crayola meets CHANEL: a way to look like a more polished version of yourself with minimal effort.
The minimalism extends to the packaging. Chic black crayons and sharpeners come in tins with a built-in mirror and enough room for six lip, eye or cheek sticks, making it possible to carry an entire routine in one hand. Low-key, but high impact, the range focuses on flattering neutrals that are designed to be used without tools. (Video tutorials detail their accessible "draw + smudge" technique.) An impressive assortment of textures adds versatility, with festival-friendly iridescent highlighters existing with matte nudes and juicy gel formulas perfect for work, weekend and beyond. We spoke with Taylor Frankel and mom Jenny to get their advice for a beautifully laid-back 2019.
Do you have any beauty-related New Year's resolutions?
Taylor Frankel: My resolution this year (and every year) is to focus on makeup and beauty products that make me feel good in my own skin, whether this be with our neutral shades that complement my features, using products with natural ingredients to ensure a healthy and clear complexion or simplifying my routine with easy-to-use products (because an extra 10 minutes of sleep wouldn't hurt either)!
Jenny Frankel: My resolution is to have more work-life balance to help slow down the signs of aging and maximize the effects of my skin care faves. This would include more sleep, staying hydrated, de-stressing with meditation and detoxing with exercise.
Mine is to cut back on clutter. What advice do you have for me before I attack my makeup stash?
TF: Hmm, this is a tough one. Firstly, I think that it's important to identify the products that you actually use. I don't know about you, but I'm an impulsive shopper and tend to purchase products that I never end up using. If you have an excess of unused product (like I do), donating product to a women's shelter is an amazing cause. Also, having proper storage—The Container Store and IKEA have great options—is key so that your "clutter" becomes "organized clutter."
JF: Find amazing, multitasking beauty products: the NUDESTIX Nudies Matte is your lip color, eye color and cheek blush all in one with a built-in brush. Not only is this space saving, but it makes getting ready so fast and simple.
Marie Kondo, the queen of decluttering, asks us to keep only what brings us joy. Which NUDESTIX items bring you the most joy right now?
TF: Firstly, I love the Marie Kondo mantra! I find myself the happiest when my skin looks radiant, healthy and glowy. To achieve this look, I never leave home without these three products: Tinted Blur Stick to even out my skin, Nudies Matte All Over Face Color in Sunkissed, which was created by makeup artist Mary Phillips, and our new Magnetic Nude Glimmers for a long-wearing glow.
JF: I'm loving highlight right now. Nudes Glow creates glasslike skin that makes your skin look as youthful and healthy as if you just left the spa. Youthful-looking skin makes me happy.
We know that NUDESTIX has neutrals on lock. When you do have a crazy color craving, what do you reach for?
TF: I rarely have color cravings! If I do, I tend to reach for our deeper pink, red or burgundy lip colors, and I apply them on the eye for an edgy, smoky-eye look.
JF: I'm a fan of really natural-looking makeup, because I love feeling like me … and it's so easy to go from day to night with natural tones. I think a bold red lip is so classy and sexy on every woman, and it's my go-to when I'm craving crazy color. I will pair a bold lip with luminous skin and natural eyes.
Your recyclable black tins hold up to a half-dozen NUDESTIX—amazing! Hardcore fans will end up with tons of them. Have you seen any creative upcycles, or will you offer a refill-only option in the future?
TF: Yes! Our customers love reusing our tins for storing their makeup pencils (obviously), jewelry, bobby pins/hair ties, money, business cards, fragrance and essential oil rollers, lip balms and more.
JF: We love that when you buy NUDESTIX, there is no paper and plastic to throw away. If I have extra tins, I use them for business cards, hair ties, headsets and other small items that I have a tendency to lose or are messy to take on the go.
